Roll out the Red Carpet for ” I Press Play “. An exclusive interview with one of London’s Up and Coming Drum & Bass Music Producers.
Interview with our very own Luke Hanson , DJ & Music Producer
How did you get into DJing?
I went to visit a friend up in Sheffield and we went out to a club night that changed everything for me. After that, I started messing around on Virtual DJ and took to it like a duck to water. Never looked back since.
Where was your first ever gig?
The Nest, Dalston.
How often and for how long do you practice?
I put in the work almost every day. Usually for an hour or two.
What do you think makes a good DJ?
Selection, delivery and energy.
What’s the worst thing that has ever happened to you as a working DJ?
Having someone throw their drink on me because I played a song they didn't like.
Has your career journey had a deliberate direction, or did it simply gradually evolve in whatever direction it found?
From early on I knew it was something I wanted to do professionally.
Do you sing in the shower? What songs?
I prefer beatboxing. Any catchy rhythm stuck in my head.
What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?
Not a lot. Ha!
Do you play any musical instruments?
Drums
Who’s your favourite DJ/Music Producer/Artist of all time?
Jazzy Jeff and EZ have had a massive influence on me. Their sets are always so playful yet executed with absolute technical precision.
If you were talking to a younger version of you, what career advice would you give yourself?
Stay on course, be patient.
What’s your favourite animal and why?
Cats. There's still that part of them where they think they're apex predators in the wild. Makes them fascinating and hilarious to watch given they're also so darn cute.
What do you like about working with JW DJ Agency?
The level of professionalism, the respect for the craft and the family ethos
